Demonstrator in Boulogne-sur-Mer

Wave-op: An innovative wave energy demonstrator under construction at Boulogne-sur-Mer

Groupe Legendre announces the construction of the first full-scale demonstrator of the Dikwe project, a unique wave-powered system combining coastal protection and renewable electricity generation, in Boulogne-sur-Mer (62).

A solution for decarbonizing port infrastructures

This innovative solution should help port areas and their infrastructures to accelerate their energy transition, since with Dikwe, a seawall no longer only serves to protect the coastline: it can also be used to convert wave energy into electricity. The principle resides in a system of oscillating flaps, also known as «flaps», activated by the waves and enabling wave power to be converted into carbon-free electricity.

A technological milestone:
Led by Geps Techno and Ifremer, and supported by ADEME, this project is part of a strong ambition to offer innovative, sustainable coastal infrastructures that produce green energy. After several years of experimentation (notably on the Ifremer site in Brest), this demonstrator will be operational by the end of 2025.

A shared vision :
Aware of the importance of this technology, Groupe Legendre and Geps Techno have created the Wave-Op joint venture, dedicated to the port infrastructures of the future, to turn every wave into an opportunity.

This new structure dedicated to wave technology will enable us to bring the Dikwe solution, and other innovations to come, to an international scale.
